This month’s Free Open Mic offers a powerhouse featured poet that is making his way to the top of the HOTTEST NYC Spoken Word Poets list.
For the month of August, starting at 7:30pm, “Sugar Hill Beats Poetry/Spoken Word Open Mic Series” features poet, actor, playwright, Nick E. Finn of poetry troupe The Full Circle Ensemble NYC.

Spoken Word Poet Shafina Ahmed hosts “Sugar Hill Beats Poetry/Spoken Word Open Mic Series” every first Thursday of the month at Tsion Cafe & Bakery. NO COVER. 7:00pm Open Mic list sign-up begins. Sign-up ends 7:45pm SHARP! Maximum of 15 poets/spoken word artists, 3 minutes each. First come, first serve. Show starts 8pm. Featured poet(s) goes on after Open Mic. Show ends at 10:00pm.
This free Open Mic is only for poetry/spoken word. Refreshments and food will be available for purchase during the show. Two-drink minimum which includes: teas, coffees, beverages, wine, beer.
ABOUT THE FEATURE:
Nick E. Finn
An Irish-American poet from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Finn is emerging as a fresh voice in the NYC spoken word poetry scene with performances at the Nuyorican Poet’s Café and Apt 78 in Washington Heights. Nick graduated as an inaugural member of Capicu Culture’s #LaSOPA (School of Poetic Arts) and was a featured artist in Advocate of Wordz’s 2014 theatrical extravaganza “Summer of Wordz.”
Finn is also a member of Latanya DeVaughn’s Full Circle Ensemble NYC. And in January of 2015, alongside the Full Circle Ensemble’s all-star cast of poets, he appeared in “From The Page to the Stage,” then recently in another FCE production “Misconceptions,” in June of 2015. Both shows produced by Latanya DeVaughn, directed by Andres “Chulisi” Rodriguez, and at the legendary National Black Theatre in Harlem.
