Sunday, August 16, 2015, 4:00pm at the Parkside Lounge, great weather for MEDIA brings you “great weather Spoken Word Sundays” Spoken Word Poetry Open Mic featuring poets: Jeanann Verlee, Rico Frederick, and Eliel Lucero. Along with these powerhouse featured poets, there will also be an Open Mic. This weeks show will be hosted by Canvas of Words’ Poet Thomas Fucaloro.

Great Weather’s weekly “Spoken Word Sundays” has another great feature set and Open Mic planned for you. This weeks FEATURES will be Eliel Lucero, Jeanann Verlee, and Rico Frederick.

ABOUT THE FEATURES:

JEANANN VERLEE is a performance poet, editor, and former punk rocker who collects tattoos and wears polka dots. She is author of two poetry collections: Said the Manic to the Muse and Racing Hummingbirds, which earned the Independent Publisher Book Award Silver Medal in poetry. She has also been awarded the Third Coast Poetry Prize and the Sandy Crimmins National Prize for Poetry. Her work has appeared in failbetter, Yemassee, Adroit, and PANK, among others, and anthologized in various publications, including Uncommon Core: Contemporary Poems for Learning and Living, The Courage Anthology: Daring Poems for Gutsy Girls, and Looking for the Enemy: The Eternal Internal Gender Wars of Our Sisters Anthology. Verlee worked as poetry editor for Union Station Magazine, For Some Time Now: Performance Poets of New York City, and Winter Tangerine Review: Fragments of Persephone, in addition to a number of individual collections.

Verlee has represented New York City ten times at the National Poetry Slam, Individual World Poetry Slam, and Women of the World Poetry Slam under two of the most highly-regarded poetry performance series in the nation: Urbana Poetry Slam and The louderARTS Project. Verlee was an NPS Finalist in 2008 and has twice earned the title of Urbana iWPS Champion (2009, 2013). She is former director of the Urbana Poetry Slam reading series, where she also served as writing and performance coach. Verlee has performed and facilitated workshops at schools, theatres, libraries, bookstores, and dive bars across North America.

RICO FREDERICK is a fun-loving Trinidadian transplant, a full-time Art Director/Graphic Novelist & The founder of DizzyEngine Inc. The first poet ever to represent all four New York City poetry venues at the National Poetry Slam. Mr. Frederick has performed throughout the United States for over ten years and scribbles poems on the backs of maps in hopes they will take him someplace new. Rico loves gummy bears & pistachio ice cream and he calls Harlem home.

great weather for MEDIA showcases both national and international writers EVERY SUNDAY at the Parkside Lounge for their reading series, “great weather Spoken Word Sundays.” They offer Featured readers and always a Spoken Word Poetry Open Mic, 4:00 – 6:00 pm. All styles of poetry welcome at the Open Mic.
