ABOUT THE FEATURE:

MARIELA REGALADO was inspired by her 7th-grade ELA teacher to write. By day she works as a College Counselor, helping to change the landscape for students of color attending institutions of higher learning. She also hosts creative writing and poetry workshops with “Brooklyn Gypsies” for students to unlock their creativity and strengthen elements of style.

Her performances include Wordat4F (a grassroots movement in Washington heights), Arieto Live! (in the Bronx), “La Pluma y La Tinta Series” at La Casa Azul Bookstore (in East Harlem), and performing for Tantalizing Productions, Inc. (which she will be performing for at “The Art of Seduction” this October (in Philly) & November (@ the Bronx Museum). Click “The Art of Seduction” for more info.) She recently completed a cycle at Capicu Culture’s The School of Poetic Arts (#LaSOPA) and performed in a Capicu Culture show, along with her fellow “graduates.”

Mariela is a Full Circle Ensemble NYC poet with two theatrical performances under her belt: “From The Page To The Stage” and “Misconceptions”; both performed at the legendary National Black Theater. She is currently working on documenting her multidimensional experience through bilingual poetry and prose.

Be sure to get to Harlem and check out “one of the best poetry open mics out there.” Tsion Café & Bakery offers authentic Ethiopian cuisine, along with other delectable-eats that will satisfy even the finickiest of palates. (Rumor is, Tsion’s Sangria’s are AMAZING.) For the food, drinks, and entertainment, this is a FREE POETRY OPEN MIC that will surely be worth your travel and two-drink minimum purchase.

DO REMEMBER: Sugar Hill Beats Free Poetry Open Mic is a Spoken Word/Poetry ONLY Open Mic. Grab your poems, get out and recite. Contact some friends. Meet up at Tsion Café and enjoy a night of good times with POETRY, every 1st Thursday of the month!
