Great Weather’s “Spoken Word Sundays” has another great feature set and Open Mic planned for you. This weeks FEATURES will be spoken word poet Shafina Ahmed, spoken word poet Mark Anthony Vigo and poet Intrest Borges.

ABOUT THE FEATURES:

SHAFINA AHMED is a poet/writer sharing the truths of her life, and her perspective of the world. She is a member of The Sunday Writing Circle, the Full Circle Ensemble, and Astoria Stand Up – Harmony & Dissonance Sessions. She has performed at various poetry events in NYC – performed in a poetry theatrical stage production “From The Page To The Stage” in Jan. 2015 with the Full Circle Ensemble – and recently performed for a second Full Circle Ensemble stage production,  “Misconceptions,” June 20th at the National Black Theater in Harlem. She is the Communications Manager for cultural events at Tsion Café, Sugar Hill-Harlem, and curates the Café’s monthly open mic series “SUGAR HILL BEATS.”

MARK ANTHONY VIGO aka “Vigo Hard BK” is a poet/spoken word artist with an eye for photography. By day he supervises hi-end, construction/renovation projects in Manhattan. He hails from Williamsburg, Brooklyn where he was born and raised.

Coming of age during the birth of Hip Hop has heavily influenced his writing and poetic style. Shaping him, from the Hip Hop MC that he was, during his high school years, to the poet and performer he is now. He took a tremendous leap of faith one day nearly six years ago, after putting down the mic for so long, when he was asked to grace the mic with his words. The request came from a long-time friend, who had put together an open mic event in Hell’s Kitchen and he’s been writing and performing ever since.

He appeared at the first, annual, New York Poetry Festival, held on Governor’s Island. He has also been featured at, Capicu! Culture, The Inspired Word, The Babble in The Bronx, Canvas of Words and other venues across New York City, including The Bowery Poetry Club, and the Nuyorican Poet’s Café. Performing as far away as Puerto Rico, at the famed Poet’s Passage in Old San Juan, with Lady Lee Andrews.

He is currently working on publishing his first book of poetry, and he also hopes to one day, eventually, publish a novel.

INTREST BORGES is a Poet, Host, Father, Mentor, born in The Bronx, and has performed all around the city making a name for himself. Intrest has performed for Microphone Fiends, Moca’s, Woodbourne Correctional Facility, Sullivan Community College, Billie Blacks, The Inspired Word, and the Nuyorican Poets Café, just to name a few . He has hosted a monthly Open Mic show in Middleton, NY and has conducted writing workshops for youth around the city. His poetry was featured in Planando Banderas, a play based on the lives of 4 successful Latinos, from New York. The play was shown at the Lovinger Theater, of Lehman College.

He recently exploded into the Poetry scene with his POWERFUL cipher and play on words. His Poetic style and raw gritty tales of the streets will make you take a deep breath as he paints stories on paper bringing life’s experiences to reality.
