Chef Flora Montes, President & Founder of Bronx NY Fashion Week brings to you Bronx NY Fashion Week 2015: The Essence of Beauty, Saturday, May 9th, 2015, 5:00pm at the landmark Old Bronx Courthouse – hosted by the Bronx’s very own, Poet “LaBruja” Caridad De La Luz.

MESSAGE FROM BRONX NY FASHION WEEK 2015 PRESIDENT:

“Once again we will be making history as we hold this event not only during Bronx Week but also during No Longer Empty’s latest exhibition, ‘When You Cut Into The Present The Future Leaks Through’ featuring both Bronx artists and artists from around the world

Bronx Fashion Week, the birthplace of hip hop and style now becomes The Home of Fashion. Bronx Fashion Week will be a renowned event full of celebration brand, originality and style which will merge and offer distinguished and different styles to the fashion industry.

VIP ticket holders will get front row priority seating, a private cocktail reception from 5PM – 6PM, 1 complimentary drink/beverage of your choice and some amazing food along with a swag bag filled with amazing goodies.

General Admission ticket holders grants you access to the event at 6PM and great food and drinks will be available for sale.

At this years Bronx fashion Week there will be music, food, poetry, singers, along with other forms of ART and FASHION! This is an event not to be missed as we come together once again to bring fashion to where it all began.

We encourage all attendees, regardless of which tickets you have to come as early as you like and roam around the beautiful Old Bronx Courthouse where you will be able to see No Longer Empty’s major exhibition displaying the works of over 20 artists on 3 levels.

ABOUT THE PRESIDENT & FOUNDER OF BRONX NY FASHION WEEK – CHEF FLORA MONTES

Chef Flora Montes was born and raised in the Bronx of Puerto Rican descent. She is an Entrepreneur and is the CEO of Bronx Fashion Week. She is also the Founder of TheGiftToEmpower.Org which was founded in 2014. The Non Profit Organization’s mission is to help families in need residing in shelters by empowering through mentorship, education and resources through a series of workshops and programs. The organization’s dream is to bridge the gap between other organizations in order to help even more children throughout the Bronx (1st Phase) and in the future NYC and nationwide.

She has also been mentoring young women through an organization called G.I.R.L since 2007 (IcanbecauseI’[email protected]) in which she mentors through writing and poetry. One of her poems is published in Hunter College Letras “Centro de Estudios Puertoriquenos” as well as “Sabores de mi Cocina.” She is a public speaker also and has spoken in universities and hospitals in NYC about overcoming adversity. In addition to being a poet and performing in different venues throughout NYC such as Canvas of Words in Queens, Fairfield University and The Bronx Museum of the Arts just to name a few, she has produced shows at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe in addition to attending workshops for the NYLWG & was a member of the Poetry Collective Group The Tantalizing Angels.

Flora started a school drive 8 years ago in the South Bronx after the passing of her daughter Vanessa Christine in order to give back to children who were in need which has helped her heal from her less than stellar childhood, turning all the negative things in her life into positives while teaching children that no matter where they come from they have the ability to succeed as she herself was a product of the South Bronx. She has helped over 4000 children in the Bronx with a number of organizations in order to reach that goal.

She has served on the Advisory Counsel for the Bronx Museum for the past 3 years. She has also worked in collaboration with the museum bringing her school drive as part of a yearly event called Back to School Drive Family Affair in which not only pens and pencils are given out but a number of organizations from all over the Bronx offering there services & resources to families that are in need.

Flora is a recipient of a number of awards in addition to being awarded in 2014 an award from the Bronx Times as being One of the 25 Most Influential Women in the Bronx.

 

Bronx NY Fashion Week is not only about beautiful people in beautiful clothing and makeup. Bronx NY Fashion Week is about ART. It’s about showing the beauty that starts from within a person that is brought to life through their own style and individuality. And at Bronx NY Fashion Week 2015 it is done through fashion, design, makeup artistry, dance, music, poetry, singing, LIVE art, canvas art, visual art, culinary art (food), networking, connecting, and many other forms of ART. Even the building, that Bronx NY Fashion Week will be held in this year, is a work of Art.
